As a retinal biologist, I am studying retinal degeneration in the context of age-related macular degeneration. Using gene therapy approaches in a mouse model of disease, my work moves us closer to understanding the pathophysiology of age-related macular degeneration. I also work to apply knowledge of the genetic risk factors for age-related macular degeneration, while combining this with complement pathway and lipid biology.
I am also interested in expanding pediatric retinal screening to fill existing gaps in care that lead to delayed diagnosis. By implementing widespread retinal screening, I hope to improve children's access to eye care, promote earlier treatment of pediatric retinal diseases, and preserves children's long-term vision.
By asking questions across these spaces, I aim to develop and progress towards novel therapies and screening platforms that combat retinal degenerations.
